The manufacturer describes the bristles’ properties thusly: “Binchotan charcoal is blended into each bristle of this toothbrush which helps give off negative ions, helpful for deodorizing and removing plaque, preventing bad breath, and harmful bacteria from growing within the brush.”

The Amazon page is also full of BS reviews like this gem: “Just what my grandson ordered for Christmas, thanks!” Absolutely nobody’s grandson got excited about a toothbrush for Christmas. This kid probably also wanted Brussels sprouts, a copy of Quicken Rental Property Manager 2015, and some homework.

Lotteria is a Japanese hamburger restaurant chain, not a lottery for diarrhea like it sounds. They have a reputation for making huge, multi-patty burgers that are hard, but apparently fun to eat. Lotteria recently created this five-patty computer mouse as a promotional item.

If their burger is hard to eat, their mouse burger is sure to make surfing the internet just as awkward.

We’ve been making movies about soldiers, sailors, and airmen firing lasers at each other for a long time now. Now you can watch a video of what it actually looks like when the US Navy uses its new laser weapons system (LaWS) to take on two boats and a drone. Unsurprisingly, it’s not nearly as dramatic and flashy as the sci-fi equivalents, but it looks to be very effective.

Basically, a dude with a video game controller tells the LaWS what it’s aiming for, and the laser tracks the target and then burns the ever-living crap out of it. For the purposes of the video and making the shooting of a laser cannon at least somewhat dramatic, the Navy made sure that both of the boats had an explosive element to attack. The drone, on the other hand, just drops unceremoniously from the sky after the LaWS lines up. The part that’s good for the average tax-payer: it costs less than a dollar per shot to operate the LaWS.

[via YouTube]

Nesting dolls are very cool; they originated in the 1890s in Russia. Later, they would turn up on someone’s grandma’s knick-knack table, and the rest is history. Usually a set of nesting dolls look like boring people, but not this set. They look like the characters from Adventure Time. If you have never watched Adventure Time, you are missing some truly algebraic action.

These wooden nesting dolls include Finn as the largest, Jake, Princess Bubblegum, The Ice King, and BMO. I think Jake should have been the largest of the nesting dolls. After all, he can make himself as gigantic as he wants.

The only nesting doll that doesn’t open up is BMO. Jake is 5.75″ tall and the size goes down for each one, with BMO measuring just 1.6″. You can pick up a set for $24.99(USD) at ThinkGeek.

Game of Thrones fans who like to drink will appreciate this goblet with a dragon claw stem. It’s a Dragonclaw goblet replica that you can use for wine, mead, the blood of your enemies, or whatever you like to drink while you watch the show.

The stem of the glass looks like metal, but it is actually resin. I know from experience that resin will break like ceramic if you drop it, so if you partake be careful with the glass. The bottom section of the glass is tinted an amber color that fades to clear near the top, which makes it perfect for serving water and trying to convince people that it’s whiskey.

One downside for lazy people out there – this goblet can’t be washed in the dishwasher – it’s hand wash only. You also can’t microwave it meaning no hot chocolate in a goblet for you. You can pick one up for $29.99(USD) at ThinkGeek.

You might not consider something that’s called a “Star Destroyer” as a symbol of eternal love. But that’s exactly how Star Wars fans Stephen Dempsey and his fiancé Amanda will remember the Imperial spaceship. Same goes for the parking lot where he proposed. Stephen created a scale model of the ship using LEGO and used it as the box to hold Amanda’s ring.

Speaking with The Daily Dot, Stephen said he originally wanted to present the ship and propose with a romantic dinner. But he didn’t want to risk damaging the ship until then, so he just popped the question at a parking lot. So why the Star Destroyer? Stephen explains, “I told her [Amanda] our love was like this ship and the people inside it. Its shields deflect and defend from any outside force wanting to get in and destroy us. Then I opened the star ship and there stood Darth Vader holding the engagement ring.”

As for Stephen’s ringbearer of choice, he said that Darth Vader’s love for Luke is a great example of sticking to your loved one’s side no matter what. Stephen, I hope this doesn’t mean you’ll abandon Amanda for decades, then cut off her hand before revealing that you’re her husband.

Kudos to Stephen for successfully pulling off a romantic Dark Side proposal.

“Imagine a tower defense game where the tower is alive and moving. Imagine enemies that change not just their shape but their very chemical composition to overcome defenses. Imagine facing an enemy so numerous that they grow exponentially before it can even be estimated how many there are.” This is how the Immune Defense Kickstarter begins. It’s referring to something you body is probably doing right now: fighting an illness.

Immune Defense is the creation of a biochemist named Melanie Stegman, who wants to not only make learning about the protein structures that are integral to an immune system more fun, but also to distribute part of this game free of charge, so that teachers can use it in the same way that they used Oregon Trail to teach us about dying of dysentery.

Better yet, the Kickstarter recognizes that “there is no more horrible portmanteau than ‘edutainment'” and that “Angry Birds teaches nothing of either ornithology or anger management to those that play it.

Reserve a copy of Immune Defense for $20, or for $10 if you’re one of the next 36 people to snag the Early Bird Special. Stretch goals will open the game up to platforms other than PC and include additional pathogens and defense mechanisms.

Nervous System, a company specializing in new methods of creating 3D shapes for printing, just showed off a new product using its fledgling Kinematics system. Kinematics’ web app translates 3D models into flexible sheets made up of interlocking, hinged triangles. The result, thus far, has been a variety of user-designed necklaces, earrings, and bracelets, but the company has now made something much larger and more complex – a complete dress.

The shape of the dress is based on a body scan, so the fit is perfect. The method of construction is also rather interesting; the printer creates the garment so that it’s folded up into itself, allowing the company to use a printer with an print area much smaller than the final product.

The first of these Kinematics dresses has been purchased by New York’s Museum of Modern Art, but users can now create their own designs and contact the company for ordering information here. There are a lot of holes in the existing designs though, so you have better either be very outgoing or plan to wear something under your garment.

[via 3D Printing Industry]

He hopes to win a Guinness World Record now that he has 203 characters that have appeared on The Simpsons tattooed on his back.

We have seen plenty of plush toys from the Star Wars universe. This time out we get actual stuffed animals, assuming Jabba the Hutt is some sort of an animal.

There are six different creatures to choose from including a Wampa, Bantha, Tauntaun, Rancor, Dewback, and the aforementioned Hutt. I’m not sure how you can make Star Wars stuffed animals and not include an Ewok in the mix.

The Rancor is sort of cute as is the Wampa.

I grew up hearing the words “Incantus pulcher imperium” and seeing a little 2D sprite launch a fireball at Irenicus or some hobgoblins or Sarevok shortly afterwards. As a result, I really, really wish I could do that. Unfortunately, I’m yet to discover a way to conjure fire using just the force of my will and some poorly pronounced Latin, so I might have to settle for the aptly-named Pyro Fireshooter; guess what it does.

Yup, it straps to your wrist under your sleeve and hold four nitrocellulose charges. Each charge is fired individually, and takes the form of a freaking fireball that flies about ten feet before burning up. If that doesn’t make you happy, I don’t know what will. You can impress your friends, convince primitive tribes to worship you as a god, or frighten your enemies.

The Pyro Fireshooter is available from Ellusionist for $174(USD). While $174 is a lot of money for a toy, you can justify it as being very little money to spend fulfilling a dream.

Last October, we talked about WriteBoard, a concept for a touchscreen display that can stream its screen to mobile devices. Its fundraiser is a complete flop, but if you were hoping for such a device check out Smart Kapp. It’s a lot like WriteBoard, but its surface is actually a whiteboard. Then there’s the fact that it already exists.

Smart Kapp can screencast to mobile devices and desktop computers. Both the presenter and the viewers can take screenshots of the screen at any time. Viewers can share screenshots with just a couple of clicks or taps, while the presenter will need a USB storage device to download screenshots saved on the board.

It would be nice if the board could open and screencast documents and media as well, especially when you consider how much it costs. You can pre-order Smart Kapp from Amazon for $899 (USD).

[via Werd]

The NES is already fairly portable if you don’t mind sticking it in a backpack and going over to a friend’s house to play some classic Super Mario Bros., but if that isn’t small enough for you, you could try this Pitendo. It’s a tiny retro game emulator that is oh so adorable.

This compact console features a retro Nintendo design and at this size it is just cute as a button. Of course, since it’s a complete computer, it can run multiple emulators, but it’s ideal for NES or SNES games. After all, it might seem sacrilege to play Sonic the Hedgehog on this thing.

You can get just the Pi-tendo Case for $49(USD) and put the model B+ raspberry Pi in it yourself, or you can buy the Pitendo Ultimate which includes: Raspberry Pi Model B+, an 8GB SD Card with RetroPie, One USB SNES Controller, an AC Adapter and an HDMI Cable for $119.

This is the perfect way to play all of those vintage games. Your favorite old school games will be with you wherever you go now.

[via This Is Why I’m Broke]

Back in 2012 we found out about StreetPong, a concept for a fun way to encourage pedestrians to wait for the Walk sign to go off before crossing a street. Sandro Engel, Amelie Künzler and Holger Michel came up with the idea. Now Sandro and Amelie have set up their own company, Urban Invention, to develop the safety device, which they now call ActiWait.

Last November, Urban Invention installed a working prototype of ActiWait in Hildesheim, Germany. The company is currently raising funds on Indiegogo to further develop ActiWait. The company thinks of adding other distractions for pedestrians, such as news feeds, a navigation helper, traffic rules for children, surveys and even a speed dating service. Here’s the prototype in action:

Look both ways then cross to Urban Invention and HAWK University’s website to learn more about ActiWait.

[via Colossal]
